Autumn Deer. This painting was inspired by a photo I captured during a misty morning trail run. We were at the JAS Festival in Aspen/Snowmass, my first weekend back in Colorado after a long summer. I was drawn to this quiet guardian and the vibrant colors against the pale Aspen trees. So glad to finally bring this image to life.

Flowers include globeflowers, Rocky Mountain iris, marsh marigold, shooting stars, hemlock parsley, kings crown, chiming bells, showy milkweed, and biswort. 🥀��🪷🏔️

In a departure from my typical artwork, I created three new pieces as a direct response to the surge of Executive Orders issued earlier this year that oppose basic human rights. I often ask myself: didn't we all learn the fundamentals of kindness, fairness, and equality when we were kids? I needed to fight back with resilience, hope, and a commitment to equality.

I am proud to have these pieces featured in the @noboartdistrict protest art show, Fortunate Son, opening tonight, October 2nd. This new work serves as a battleground for hope, fighting for the values we were raised with—values exemplified by programming like Sesame Street and PBS, which are currently under threat today. I love my trans and immigrant family and friends and will fight for them, as well as for women's health, prison reform, and basic human kindness.

Wildflower season!! Days like this are why I start my mornings on the trail. Most of my paintings are inspired by wildflowers and views like these from the summit of Mount Sanitas. Views to the east at sunrise with a few deep breaths, and then your breath is taken away when you turn to view the snow-capped Continental Divide to the west. Have a great day, people!

“Classic Poppies.” An early second anniversary gift for my son and his husband.

I’ve been think about them and their right to marry a lot lately. Love is love and family is family. At their wedding in 2022, their ceremony cited Obergefell vs Hodges, “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become greater than they once were…. Petitioners respect (marriage) so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”

So beautifully said. I am a lucky mom.
